Stone for your South Florida Landscape

We said we like cool rocks so here are three! These are three limestones to incorporate into your landscape.

Oolite

Oolite is the soft, porous limestone that underlays most of Miami. In fact, if you dig a few feet down in your South Florida property chances are you will hit oolitic limestone. Oolite is best used for non-structural applications such as landscape pavers or as a veneer on backdrops, columns, and other accent features. Keep in mind, if left exposed mosses and ferns will grow on the stone, which could be a favorable look if you’re going for that!

Florida Keystone

Florida Keystone is a harder limestone, made up of compressed coral and shell fragments. It is suitable for structural elements such as pool decks, coping, hardscape pavers, and low walls. Florida Keystone ranges in density and quality, so make sure you get a sample from your supplier to verify how it will hold up in your new space.

Dominican Coralina

Dominican Coralina is imported from the Dominican Republic and features rich patterns of fossilized corals. It is a dense stone with low heat absorption, making it a popular choice for pool decks. This limestone often has a smoother finish than the more textured Florida Keystone, but can be used in all the same applications.

Each of these stones gives a distinct Florida / Caribbean feel to your outdoor living space. If you are looking to incorporate additional aesthetics into your garden we are happy to bring in stone from around the globe.
